Bharti Airtel on Tuesday become the first company in India to offer high-speed Internet services using fourth-generation (4G) telecommunications technology.

Bharti rolled out the 4G wireless broadband services in Kolkata and is working on launching advanced technology networks in other parts of the country.

What's new in 4G technology?

4G, known as the ultra-broadband allows mobile phone users to surf the Internet, video conference and download music, video and other content at a rate several times faster than 3G services that are still being rolled out across the country.

A successor to the 3G and 2G families, 4G is expected to be five times quicker than 3G services. It would offer services such as high-definition mobile TV and video conferencing.

With one of the largest pools of young people in the world, India will see massive growth in consumption of data and content over mobile devices and proliferation of mobile commerce, analysts say.

The network for rolling out Airtel's 4G LTE services in the city had been built by Chinese telecom equipment maker ZTE. Airtel is the first mobile operator to launch 4G services in the country.

World's smallest transistor 'created'

Scientists have created what they claim is the world's smallest transistor, using a single phosphorus atom. An international team at the University of New South Wales, Purdue University and the University of Melbourne, has described the smallest transistor ever built in the 'Nature Nanotechnology' journal.
Michelle Simmons, who led the team, says the development is less about improving current technology than building future technology."This is a beautiful demonstration of controlling matter at the atomic scale to make a real device. Fifty years ago when the first
transistor was developed, no one could have predicted the role computers would play in our society today."As we transition to atomic-scale devices, we are now entering a new paradigm where quantum mechanics promises a similar technological disruption. It is the promise of this future technology that makes this present development so exciting," Simmons said.
A single phosphorus atom is just 0.1 nanometres across, which would significantly reduce the size of processors made using this technique, although it may be many years before single-atom processors actually are manufactured. However, the single-atom transistor does have one serious limitation -- it must be kept very cold, at least as cold as liquid nitrogen, or minus 196 Celsius.
"The atom sits in a well or channel and for it to operate as a transistor the electrons must stay in that channel. At higher temperatures, the electrons move more and go outside of the channel. For this atom to act like a metal you have to contain the electrons to the channel. "If someone develops a technique to contain the electrons, this technique could be used to build a computer that would work at room temperature. But this is a fundamental question for this technology," Gerhard Klimeck, a team member, said in a release by Purdue University.

Difference between ONLINE and OFFLINE UPS

Offline UPS

Offline UPS supply grid power to electrical and electronic devices during normal power supply. It switches to battery power only during power failures and other power problems. As the grid power is bypassed to the load during normal power supply, it is known as Offline UPS. As the UPS is used only during power problems it is also known as Standby UPS. Offline UPS is also spelled as Off-Line UPS or Off Line UPS. Apart from bypassing power to the load, Offline UPS also charges the connected batteries during normal power supply. The bypassing of power results in exposing the load to electrical noises and surges. Therefore, they are not recommended for very sensitive and critical electronic devices. During power failures and other power problems, they switch from grid power to battery power fast enough to prevent computers from rebooting. The switchover time is usually between 2 to 20ms.

Online UPS - Online UPS supply power to electrical and electronic devices from batteries all the time. The UPS first converts grid power to charge the batteries and then discharges the batteries to power the load. As the battery power is supplied to the load at all times, it is known as Online UPS. The grid power is converted from (Alternating Current) AC to DC (Direct Current) to charge the battery and the battery power is converted from DC to AC to power the load. Therefore online UPS is also known as Double Conversion UPS.

As Online UPS always provides power from the battery, the load always gets clean power regardless of any power problems. Therefore, Online UPS is recommended for sensitive and critical electronic devices. Online UPS provide a layer of insulation or electric firewall. Any change in the input voltage or frequency does not affect the output voltage and frequency. Therefore, the load is shielded from all power problems.

Guidelines for newly introduced Mail Network System
The existing mail offices have been classified into Level 1 (L-1) and Level 2 (L-2) mail offices. There would be 89 L-1 and 244 L-2 mail offices under the new set up.

All L-1 mail offices will close direct bags for each other. An L-1 office will also close bags for all L-2 offices as well as delivery post offices mapped/attached to it.

All L-2 offices attached/mapped to it an L-1 office can close bags for that particular office. An L-2 office may also close bags for all other L-2 offices mapped to the same L-1 office if the need be. It will also close bags for all delivery post offices mapped to it.

An L-2 mail office would not close bags for any other L-1 office to which it is not mapped. Similarly an L-2 office will not close bags for any other L-2 office which is not mapped to the same L-1 office. However, there may be a situation where an L-2 office may require closing bags for an L-1 or L-2 office falling in the same circle or neighboring circle for transmission advantage. Circles should try to keep this number to the bare minimum to the extent possible. In all such exceptional cases, the circle concerned should furnish the list of such offices and destinations for which bag closing is required and seek approval of the Directorate.

Post Offices would prepare two kinds of bags (separate for unregistered and registered mail) for their parent mail office (L-1 or L-2 as the case may be), which would be as follows.

A bag containing TD mail to be delivered by post offices mapped to the same parent mail office (for unregistered mail).

A bag containing non-TD (NTD) i.e. all mail other than TD , to be delivered by post offices not mapped to the same parent mail office (for unregistered mail).

A bag containing TD mail to be delivered by the post offices mapped to the same parent mail office ( for registered mail).

A bag containing non-TD (NTD) mail, i.e. all mail other than TD, to be delivered by post offices no mapped to the same parent mail office (for registered mail).

Post Offices would continue to retain station article i.e. articles to be delivered from the same post office in case of both unregistered and registered articles.

The new operational network has put into operation from 15th February, 2012.

When the system where Point of sale in working is switched on or you run the application, if you get error ‘Error no. 52’ the reason is that the Point of Sale application is unable to connect to the server.  Try any of the following as solutions

Check whether the Server is switched on and is running

Check whether the hub/switch is switched on

Check whether the LAN connection of your system is working; This can be tested by observing whether the LAN connection icon is appearing in the taskbar; If this is not available, the LAN connection might have been disabled; Request the System Administrator to enable the same

Check whether the network cable connected to the network adapter is not snapped from the connector at the back of your system; If disconnected, please reconnect

Check whether the network cable from your system is connected to one of the slots in the hub/switch remains firmly connected

Username of counter PA does not appear at shift begin in Point of Sale

Approach the supervisor in such cases.  The Supervisor would not have either done the shift begin and allotted the work or the work allocation would not be from the time required.  The Supervisor should view the current allocation for the PA.  If the from time is a future time and the PA has to start working immediately, the Supervisor can use the tab delete in the work allocation screen, select the PA and delete the entry.  Now the Supervisor can again allot the work from the current time.  The PA can now go to his/her system,  and move ahead

Username of counter PA does not appear at the end of shift in Point of Sale

In this case, the supervisor would have set the ending time of the shift of the PA earlier than the time required. When the shift time is over the name of PA disappears and the PA will not be able to complete the work.  When this happens, the PA should inform the supervisor and the supervisor should use the Modify tab in the work allocation dialog box, select the user, click the OK button and in the subsequent frame, change the To time to a suitable time beyond the current setting and click OK button; Now the name of operator will appear in the login screen and the work can be continued.
